Wayne Krantz 2012 Tour Dates for US, Japan and Korea

Jimmy Herring - New Album and Tour Dates

Guitarist Jimmy Herring (Widespread Panic) will release his second solo album Subject to Change Without Notice on August 21st 2012 through Abstract Logix Records. Joining Herring on the new disc will be Neal Fountain and Etienne Mbappe on Bass, Jeff Sipe and Tyler Greenwell on Drums and  Matt Slocum on Piano & Keys. Special guests include Bela Fleck (Banjo), Bill Evans (Sax) and Nicky Sanders (Violin). The album will feature eight original songs plus covers of Mahavishnu Orchestra’s “Hope," The Beatles' "Within You Without You” and Jimmy McGriff’s “Miss Poopie." This will be the follow-up to Herring's 2008 solo debut Lifeboat, which was easily one of the standout releases of that year. In support of the new album, Herring will also be playing the following US dates starting this August.

Photos and Mini-Review: Oz Noy Trio - Live in Chicago, IL June 3rd 2012

I caught Oz Noy's trio at Martyrs' in Chicago on Sunday and was blown away by how tight and rhythmic they were. In case you've been living under a rock, Noy's music takes a thoroughly modern approach to jazz, funk, and blues, and mixes it with a heavy dose of unique sonic textures. I've never seen a player which such a high level of control over his stomp boxes. Noy effortlessly blended vibe effects, ring modulators, and other sounds in and out of his signal in a manner that always felt integrated with the song. Noy's band for this gig featured the crack rhythm section of legendary drummer Dave Weckl, and the always great James Genus on bass - both of whom were outstanding throughout the set as they easily navigated the wacky tempo and metric changes that Noy employs in his tunes. The setlist on Sunday included songs from several of Noy's records including Fuzzy, and his latest Twisted Blues Vol 1, though everything was presented from a fresh new perspective due to the band's adventurous, improvisational approach.
