Spotted this on Strat-O-Blogster: Larry Rother has written a great piece on Jeff Beck for the New York Times. Beck discusses his early days, as well as his whirlwind of recent activity. There are also links to audio interview clips, and a track from Beck's upcoming album Emotion & Commotion.

Michael Landau posts new song from upcoming album with Robben Ford
The new album project featuring Michael Landau, Robben Ford, Gary Novak and Jimmy Haslip will be called Renegade Creation - not Trial By Fire as previously reported. I read somewhere that they encountered legal issues with the Trial By Fire moniker, so they had to change it. The record will be released in March on Mike Varney's Tone Center label. Can't wait to hear it? Well Landau has posted one the tracks from the album on his MySpace page. It's called "What's Up," and it's awesome. Go listen...

Current Listening
Here are some of the albums I've been listening to over the last couple of months.
High-quality jazz fusion recording featuring an all-star cast of LA's finest players. Includes Alex Machacek and Mike Miller on guitar.
Great modern fusion band from Canada. Guitarist John Pelosi is a killer player in the Holdsworth vein.
More of a throwback slow-jazz feel than Hunter's previous work. The fact that it was recorded in "Glorious Mono" really adds to the retro vibe.
I met and hung out with Amit a bit during my NAMM trip. Great guy, and a great guitarist. This album is a re-issue of one of his older releases. A very lyrical jazz recording with an occasional Indian influence. Includes Matt Garrison on bass.
Steve Morse and Sarah Spencer - Angelfire
New vocal project pairing Morse's compositions and Spencer's gorgeous vocals. Mostly acoustic-based, with an almost Enya-like feel. This album has not been released yet, but I picked up the "Tour Edition" at their first live performance last month. Turns out I was the first person to ever buy this album!
Alex Machacek Guitar Player Interview Outtakes
Barry Cleveland recently interviewed Alex Machacek for a feature that will appear in the May 2010 issue of Guitar Player. Some great outtakes from the interview have just been posted on Guitar Player's website.

Eric Clapton Announces 2010 Crossroads Guitar Festival
Eric Clapton has announced that the next (and possibly last) Crossroads Guitar Festival will take place on June 26th 2010 at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL. Tickets go on sale February 20th at 10:00am Central time, and will be priced at $100. I attended the last Crossroads Festival back in 2007 (also at Toyota Park), and can tell you it was an amazing day of music. Check out my pics from the 2007 festival here. Oz Noy Joins Los Angeles Music Academy
Israeli born jazz guitarist Oz Noy joins the school’s Artist-in-Residence (AIR) roster
Pasadena, CA – February 1, 2010 – Los Angles Music Academy College of Music (www.lamusicacademy.edu) announced today that Israeli born jazz guitarist Oz Noy has joined the school’s Artist-in-Residence (AIR) roster. LA Music Academy’s AIR members put on performances and master classes for students throughout the year allowing some of the world’s finest musicians to participate in music education. Noy, who “wowed” students in an on campus clinic earlier this month, is preparing for a tour to Europe with his trio featuring Dave Weckl and James Genus.
“We are thrilled to have musicians like Oz joining our roster of resident musicians. Each of our departments benefit from visits by these musical greats,” says Tom Aylesbury, President of LA Music Academy. He adds, “The AIR program is very inspiring to our students who can connect with their favorite musicians and learn invaluable tips during this very personal interaction with them.”
Noy moved to New York City in 1996 and made a big impact on the local music scene there. With his unique sound, compositions and style, he brings a mixture of pop, rock, blues, funk and jazz into a cohesive groove. Oz has performed, toured and recorded with well-established artists such as Richard Bona, Chris Botti, Mike Clark, Jeff 'Tain" Watts, Harry Belafonte, Toni Braxton, Phoebe Snow, Gavin Degraw, Neil Rogers, Roger Glover, Cyndi Lauper, Clay Aiken and Akiko Yano. He has played for numerous commercials and movie soundtracks and recently wrote the soundtrack for the highly acclaimed documentary A/K/A Tommy Chong.
Oz has released four CDs, which include an all-star roster of musicians such as Anton Fig, Keith Carlock, Will Lee, James Genus, Mike Stern, George Whitty, Shai Bachar, Reggie Washington, Vinnie Colaiuta, Jimmy Johnson, Jim Beard, Dave Weckl, Steve Lukather, Ricky Peterson and Chris Palmaro.

The Baked Potato 40th Anniversary Jazz Festival
The Baked Potato is presenting their own Jazz Festival this coming May to celebrate the legendary North Hollywood venue's 40th anniversary. The festival will take place on May 22nd and May 23rd at the John Ford Amphitheatre in Hollywood (just south of the Baked Potato on Cahuenga Blvd.). The lineup of players set to perform over the two days is an absolute dream-team of jazz and fusion; all the regulars that have made the Spud such a special place over the years will be there.
