(insert drum roll here) Manos Anyfantis and John Whaley, Jr. have both won a copy of Ed DeGenaro's new CD Less Is Seldom More. Congrats guys! Thanks to everyone who entered the contest.
Michael Landau, one of my all time favorite guitarists, has a band with his wife Karen called Hazey Jane. They've just released a new album entitled Holy Ghost. From the samples I've heard, the material sounds somewhat like their previous vocal band Stolen Fish. Very cool stuff; imagine Landau's unique chordal stylings in a folk-rock or alternative setting and you'll get the idea. Great vocals by Karen as well. Definitely worth checking out.
I'm back! Checking my news items for the day and came across this great new interview with Jimmy Herring over at Jambands.com. Jimmy discussesLifeboat, his recent tour, and much more.
Friends, I'm leaving for Guatemala early tomorrow for a family trip. I'll be back sometime on Memorial Day. I won't have much internet access while I'll down there, so you probably won't see any new posts here for a week. I may post something on Facebook or Twitter during my layover in Miami tomorrow, but that will probably be it. See you soon...
NEWSFLASH: Bassist Neal Fountain will be replacing Matt Garrison for Jimmy Herring's upcoming summer tour (Garrison had to bow out due to unforeseen circumstances). Fountain previous played with Herring in the Herring, Rodgers, Sipe, and Fountain project a few years back. In other news, here is a cool video of "Scapegoat Blues" from the Charlotte, NC show that was just uploaded by Jimmy's label Abstract Logix.

I'm giving away two copies of Ed DeGenaro's great new CD Less Is Seldom More. This is a killer album that features an impressive lineup (Ray Gomez, Marco Minnemann, Dave Weckl, among others), and of course, loads of great guitar playing by Ed. For your chance to win, send an email to [email protected] with the subject Ed DeGenaro CD Giveaway. On Friday May 29th,
I will choose 2 entries at random and announce the winners on the site.
One entry per person please; past Guitar Channel contest winners are
not eligible. Good Luck!
I saw Allan Holdsworth's show last night at Durty Nellie's in Palatine, IL. What an amazing gig. It's so cool to see a guy like Holdsworth playing at a place that's 20min from my house. I saw him when he played there in 2004 as well. He has a great band for his current tour - longtime bandmate Chad Wackerman on drums, and Ernest Tibbs on bass. Tibbs has played with Holdsworth in the past, but I'd never seen him before. Great player - has a cool straight-ahead vibe to his phrasing and lines. Here's an album of the best pics I took, plus the one video I shot.
