All Out Guitar has posted part 2 of it's interview with Brett Garsed. Among other topics, Garsed discusses his initial move to the States. Part one of this interview was posted a few weeks back
Jim Harrington of The Concert Blog has posted a nice write-up of last night's Mike Stern gig at Yoshi's in San Francisco. Stern will be appearing at Yoshi's through Dec 22nd.
Another YouTube gem: this is Jimmy Herring when he was a student at GIT in 1985. I've heard Jimmy was way into Steve Morse in those days (notice the humbucker-laden tele with the strat neck.) Check out the uploaders page for more.
NEWS FLASH: a little birdie told me guitarists Jimmy Herring and Derek Trucks, drummer Jeff Sipe, and bassist Oteil Burbridge will join forces for a new studio album for Abstract Logix in 2008! I'll post more details when they become available.
All Out Guitar has a new interview feature called "Elevenses", where they ask great guitarists the same 11 questions. Their first subject was T.J. Helmerich, now they have a new "Elevenses" posted with Steve Lukather. Check it out!
"He explains and demonstrates dozens of blues
rhythm concepts and techniques from 12-bar shuffle blues rhythms to
mixing in jazz chords to blues comping. Robben also takes you through
several of his tunes showing his chord voicings, rhythms, and
right-hand picking/finger techniques."
All About Jazz has posted a very extensive piece on guitarist John Scofield. Written by R.J. DeLuke, it's a good read that covers Scofield's entire career.
When I was a student at GIT in Hollywood in 1992, I attended a Paul Gilbert clinic/performance at the Guitar Center on Sunset Blvd. It was basically Paul and his band Electric Fence (Russ Parrish - bass, Jeff Martin - drums) jamming on some tunes. Rob Halford joined them for a few songs, as did Derek Taylor (he got to jam with Paul after winning a guitar competition as I recall). Several videos from this clinic have been uploaded to YouTube over the past few days. The one I've posted here is Paul (sans band) playing the SRV classic Scuttle Buttin'. Enjoy!
Richie Kotzen will be doing a series of guitar clinics this month in Italy. Here are the dates and locations:
Sunday December 09th, Udine Monday December 10th, Padua Tuesday December 11th, Verona Wednesday December 12th, Brescia Thursday December 13th, Pavia Friday December 14th, Vercelli Saturday December 15th, Florence Sunday December 16th, Massa Carrara Monday December 17th, Urbino
The rumors are true: The legendary jazz fusion band Return To Forever will be reuniting for a summer 2008 tour. The lineup will be Chick Corea - keys, Stanley Clarke - bass, Lenny White - drums, and Al DiMeola - guitar. Arguably the most well-known of the various RTF incarnations, this foursome was together from 1973-1976, and produced three records including the incredible Romantic Warrior album in 1976. Exact dates for the reunion tour have not yet been announced.
