Found some great pics from last nights Allan Holdsworth concert at Ramshead Tavern in Annapolis, Maryland on the PhotoCamel Photography Forum. Check them out.
I caught Holdsworth's Buffalo NY gig last Monday nite, March 26th. I was within 20 feet of the band, dead center. It was amazing. He even played a tune from Road Games and used the DeLap headless guitar for the entire show. A week later, I'm still trying to download the experience into my mind. Jimmy Johnson & Chad Wackerman rounded out the trio gig, although I saw that Alan Pasqua joins for some tour dates.
On behalf of all fusion-oids, during a pause in the show, I yelled out "Jazz!?? I hate Jazz!!!"
I was at this show also. It was the third time I've seen Holdsworth. As usual, everyone played very well, and of course Holdsworth's prowess was stunning. However Holdsworth would really benefit from learning to be a happier person. After all these years, he still hasn't overcome his insecurities, so he doesn't really engage with the audience. By contrast, Chad Wackerman had a much warmer spirit and, in many ways, was the life of the show.
Irfan's take on Holdsworth is interesting, implying that AH is both unhappy and insecure. I didn't come away from that show with any such "psych evaluation". AH simply talks softly and carries a big axe. A pretty humble and low-key character-- sure; nothing new about that. But certainly not a cold, audience snubbing head case. His stage rapport with Johnson & Wackerman was light and good humored. If he was unhappy and insecure about performing live, why would he continue to do so for over 35 years.
The fact that Irfan has seen AH perform three times, is cool. AH needs loyal fans-- but he certainly doesn't need Irfan's "Paxil prescription".
Holdsworth is probably my most favorite jazz/fusion guitarist especially when i saw him back in Sept 2010 at the Tralf in Buffalo,NY.and had the pleasure of shaking hands with Chad Wackerman before they played. As i sat there in the audience i was whistling to the tunes the trio(Ernest Tibbs on bass) played and after the first set Holdsworth said "who`s the f_ _kin` asshole whistler, get him the f_ _k out of here"! Then when he introduced the band he said "give the whistler a hand also"! Wow!
Great pictures...did you go to see the show?

No. I just saw the pics online. I live in the Chicago area; Holdsworth's not coming through here on this tour.
