I've settled on SpryCast as my Shoutcast host for The Guitar Channel stream. I've been using them for about a week now, and it's been pretty solid.
For those of you who may be unaware, The Guitar Channel is a Shoutcast radio stream featuring instrumental guitar music. The music you'll hear falls into a variety of categories: fusion, jazz rock, instrumental rock, progressive rock, heavy fusion, etc. The stream can now support up to 15 concurrent connections. The bitrate is 96kbps. You can tune in here, or from the radio section in the upper left-hand corner of the site.
Please only connect to 1 listener slot at a time. 15 is still a small number. Even if there are several open slots available, I still don't want people connecting to 2 slots at once. And do NOT use stream ripper apps either.
Thanks,
Rich
UPDATE 9/3/07: I've shut down the stream. Click here for details.
Wow. Listening to your stream right now, and you got some great pickers blowing my mind. Thanks! Found you on BlogExplosion.
I'm also a Strat player plus a MIDI composer, and you could click my name to check out my first two mixes. More on the way.
Will be listening whenever you're broadcasting. Thanks again.

Very good selection.
My new favorite music channel.

p.s. Do you plan to stream on aac+ format ? at 48kbit/aac+ is ~= 96kbit/mp3.

Thanks Krassi! No plans for an AAC+ format stream. I go with MP3's since it so common.

Wow, I have been trying to listen for over a week... (always full 12).
Bravo!! Most excellent taste!
Is there anyway for you to be able to up the max listeners?
Keep up the good work, (nice site as well).

Thanks! I was at 3 slots for a long time, I just went to 12 recently and it's still gets maxed out. I'd love to add a few more slots, but I want to wait until I get some more PayPal donations to offset the cost.

I just threw $25 your way via PayPal. Hopefully that helps keep the station streaming... (and maybe more slots eventually ;)

Thanks man!

Wow, that was quick... I noticed this morning that the listener count was 14 so I tried to connect and sure enough, my brain is flowing to Liquid Tension Experiment. Thanks Rich, you are the supreme guitar oracle for us mortals.

Thanks Maha. But you need to stop connecting to 2 slots at once. Please stop using FreeAmp.
Posted by: Rich | October 25, 2006 at 01:02 PM
OK... busted! I was just going to do it for a little while so I could listen to these kick ass tunes if no slots were available. But... now that you have upped the slot max, I'll be good and only listen ;)
Thanks again for exposing me to some wonderful music!

:) No problem.

Nice stream. Big Holdworth fan.
I worked on the stage crew for Tony Williams Lifetime during the change-over from Alan to a guitarist named Marlon Graves during the Million Dollar Legs tour. Marlon was my next door neighbor in Washington Heights [NYC] and he introduced me to Tony. Tony had a terrific brownstone on [I think] 141st street at the time. I was there for all the rehearsals while everyone practiced for the 2nd half of the tour. Alan Pasqua was the keyboardist at the time. It was quite a trip. Great memories.
Again, thanks for the stream.

Thanks for the kind words Christopher. That's cool that you used to work with Tony Williams. I'm sure you've got some great stories!

Wow. I was perusing the abstractlogix.com site earlier tonight (well, yesterday at this point) when I ran across the link for your site/stream.
I've never been big on Internet radio but maybe I need to rethink that. Your stream is just what I needed.
The local Public Radio station in my hometown used to play this kind of music all Friday and Saturday nights. I'm talking about five to six hours a night! Then the show got pared down to four hours, then three, then one, then - *poof* - it was gone. Much wailing and moaning could be heard throughout my house that final weekend. So you can imagine how great it is for me to once again have an avenue for exposure to artists that I'm not likely to hear too many other places.
Please keep going as long as you can.

Hey, greetings from across the ocean. The whole day such great tunes from the best guitarplayers. I love it!!!
At the moment the sever seems to be down, but this gives me the time to type something, instead of listening.
There are a lot of tunes, i.e. live-versions of Holdsworth, I didn´t knew that they exist. From where did you get them? Seems to me that they are not availlable in europe.
Keep On Going, I hope the server will be working very soon...

Heinz,
Some of the live stuff in the radio stream comes from live tapes I acquired through tape trades years ago. I used to be really into the trading scene, but not anymore.

Dude! I own everything you're playing! I'm 48 years old and have an extensive library from about 1974 on. I love this! I usually run music for the groups I party with, but I can't play most of this 'cause it's way over their heads! How do I send you $$$money? And... could I compare album(disc)titles with you?
