Pearl Jam Shows How Giving Away Music Can Help Sales

Found this on Techdirt. I'm not a big Pearl Jam fan, but this article is pretty interesting. Sounds like they really get it when it comes to giving away music for free, and providing DRM-free downloads of their music.

Added the Guitar Channel Frappr Map

I've created a Frappr Map for fans of the Guitar Channel blog and stream. You'll find it on the lower left side of this page. It's a little smaller than I'd like, but the side frames don't give me alot of room to work with. I think it would be cool to see where everyone who frequents the site is located. You don't need to live in the US either to add yourself to the map.

Add yourself to the Guitar Channel Frappr Map.

Visit the full Guitar Channel Frappr Map group page.

Enjoy!

Greg Howe to join Planet X

Greg Great news! Greg Howe will be joining Derek Sherinian's awesome prog band Planet X! This info has just come out in the last few days. Word is Greg will not be able to commit to the band until 2007. Not sure how this will effect the new Planet X album that is in the works. Allan Holdsworth and Brett Garsed will apparently both appear on the album, but Sherinian mentioned on his message board that the new guitarist (who we now know to be Greg Howe) will be featured on the album as well. Per Derek, a status report on the album will be coming at the end of the month. Here are some links I've found with more info:

Steely Dan guitar tribute on the way

Saw this on the Steve Morse site, and in this Mike Varney profile piece on studioexpresso.com. Jeff Richman is producing another tribute album for the Tone Center label. This time it's a Steely Dan tribute including Steve Morse, Mike Stern, Robben Ford, Al DiMeola, Steve Lukather, Jimmy Herring, Jay Graydon, Elliot Randall, and others. I love Steely Dan. This should be awesome!
